The Daily Courant, England’s first national daily newspaper, is published for the first time.

The Daily Courant was the first regular daily newspaper published in England, debuting on March 11, 1702. Founded by Elizabeth Mallet, it was printed on a single page with foreign news sourced from European papers, avoiding editorial opinions to let readers form their own conclusions. The paper was initially published from Fleet Street in London, a hub of printing and journalism. Unlike later newspapers that included commentary and domestic affairs, The Daily Courant maintained a neutral stance, emphasizing factual reporting. It ran for over 30 years before being absorbed by The Daily Gazetteer in 1735, marking a significant step in the evolution of modern journalism.
