Gallic Wars: Vercingetorix, leader of the Gauls, surrenders to the Romans under Julius Caesar, ending the siege and battle of Alesia.
The Gallic Wars (58–50 BCE) were a series of military campaigns waged by Julius Caesar, the Roman general and future dictator, against several Gallic tribes in the region of Gaul, which corresponds roughly to modern-day France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and parts of Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany. These wars were crucial in expanding the power and influence of the Roman Republic, as well as in solidifying Caesar’s personal position within Roman politics.
